Even flintlocks are gone
« on: January 06, 2021, 07:58:32 AM »
Three years ago I traded my Lyman Deerstalker .54 flint for a T/C Renegade with a .54 cal, 32" Green Mountain RB barrel.
The T/C shoots a cloverleaf group at 100 yards but now I am tired of dragging all of that gun through the PA woods.
However it seems that even finding another Deerstalker is impossible.  Every shop I have contacted just chuckles when I ask them.  Nothing on the auction sites either.  Just glad I am not in need of powder, balls, or patches.
Just another reason to blame Covid?

Send it off to Bobby Hoyt and have him shorten the bbl down to 26" or even 24".

Neither Dixons nor Fort Chambers has had one in a couple of weeks.
I would have thought that the opening of the season would have inspired folks to dig them out of the gun safes and sell them off.

Rob,
I had Bob Hoyt do work for me before and his work is superb.  If I do have him work on a flintlock or me, I think I would prefer to just hold out for a .50 Deerstalker and have him cut it for a .54 in roundball twist.
After things settle a bit I will contact him and check on the price of cutting the Green Mountain vs recutting a .50 Deerstalker.
