40 Caliber Barn Gun
« on: September 10, 2019, 08:28:24 PM »
Im starting a new rifle that I had the barrel inlet and the ramrod hole drilled in a Leigh style blank. 42'' 40 caliber Colerain Barrel with a gain twist rifling. I will inlet the lock and trigger but this barrel inletting and ramrod hole drilling saved me a week of work. My friend Cheney Looper did the work for me.

Its a swamped A weight barrel so this will be a tiny rifle!

Is this the rifle for your son, Mike? What do you think the finished weight will be?

No Darren, this one is for me and it should be around 6 lbs. The one for my son will be around 5. Both are Lehigh style 40 cal. Mike is swamped 42'' A weight his is a little 3/4 36'' barrel.

Here's one in the same style that I'm building from scratch for my oldest sons Christmas present. Got the barrel inlet today and the ramrod hole and channel done. Did a little thinning on the stock as well.

I got the breech plug in and timed then inlet the tang last night. Now I will cut in the dovetails in the barrel for the pins and pin the barrel. This is all on the scratch build.

I got the tang inlet in my pre carve this morning and have it marked out for the barrel lugs. Ready to dovetail them in.
