New set of knives for 2019
« on: December 31, 2018, 03:28:45 PM »
These are Russell Green River blades.  All I've done is put the scales on.  This is the set I like to have at hand for handling an elk, deer or antelope.  The handles aren't finished yet.  Still thinking about what to use.

Top to bottom, Buffalo Skinner with osage scales, Boner with plum scales and Camp Knife with bocote and bubinga.

I've used various finishes on scales, Mike... Stock finish, Antique oil finish and even regular ole poly...

i Like a finish I can "touch up" when needed from use! (not that at this age they'll get much use anymore!) :)

Those are nice...  VERY nice

The Buffalo skinner reminds me of a Beaver skinner I bought at a Trapper's Rendevouz in Montana years ago...not good metal in the blade though but the shape was very close... they work!

Think I've settled on Tru Oil. I'll put some on in the morning  .. . . If I don't sleep past noon. LOL

Only reason I see midnight anymore is for 4th and New Years' eve and that is ONLY cause I learned it doesn't pay to go to bed at a reasonable time cause someone is out firing off guns or fireworks and once I wake up to noise, it takes time to get back to sleep, so it's best to pop in a movie and watch it till midnight reverie is over.  Tru oil should work swell... Whenever you get up and to it! :):)

Pretty much the same here on the New Years thing.  I used to do a bit of drinking but any more it's one or two beers and playing board games.

Tru Oil It is!

Thank you.  I'm working on the Tru Oil finish as time permits and they are nearly done.  I'll post a picture when they are ready.

Finally got these finished along with sheaths.  These are belt sheaths although I nearly always carry them in a backpack.

Well, well...

Stylish sheaths there, Mike!

I like the open back area to retrieve the knife... I never tried that... SWEET!
